Dirty deeds at the Pierce County Auditor's office...

Not so long ago we had Pierce County Auditor Cathy Pearsall-Stipek lying about her degrees and credentials, as well as doing a number of other big-bad things. Then a few years ago we had Auditor Pat McCarthy, wo had served as deputy auditor to Pearsall-Stipek,  allow Pearsall-Stipek's husband who was running for a seat in the election, as was his wife, open their ballot envelopes. And now we have temporary Auditor Jan Shabro following suit with her own dirty-deeds.

Jan Shabro, a known Republican (who was appointed by super-majority R council to fill the seat known-Democrat McCarthy left vacant when she won the Executive election), claims that the budget forced her to reduce the word-count for the "about the candidate" portion of the voter's pamphlet. Most people know better though, and realize it was meant to limit what her opponents could share with voters. This limited what she could say about herself as well, so she remedied that by printing her her name on the primary ballot envelope, and giving herself a full page to write a welcome letter to readers in the same budget-limited voter's pamphlet.

To add to the current crazy-making behavior of the Auditor's office, Shabro's chief deputy auditor, who is non-other than Deryl McCarty--the whistle-blower on the McCarthy/Stipek ballot-opening fiasco--formed a PAC which Shabro promptly donated $500 to. McCarty himself then donated $800 to Shabro’s campaign which was in violation of our newly reformed county ethics law (which limits county employees to a maximum campaign contribution of $100). One would think the county auditor, and surely her chief deputy auditor, both temporary or not, would know this law. Apparently not.

It’s time to kick the good ol’ boys and girls to the curb. We’re done with the games they play at the expense of the citizenry.
