Humane Society issues stay of execution for Copper the Rabbit | Pets
Title
This just in from the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society:
The Humane Society has released Copper to Rabbit Haven Sanctuary in Gig Harbor.
Copper had been slated for euthanasia because he seriously bit a volunteer, continued to show aggression, and displayed signs of medical problems.
During the ten-day quarantine required due of the severity of the bite, Copper’s health did not deteriorate, leading to a re-evaluation of his case. His situation has also attracted the attention of passionate rabbit advocates, and sparked an outpouring of concern on his behalf.
Rabbit Haven, which has worked extensively with the Humane Society in the past, agreed to care for Copper in a sanctuary setting, and it was agreed that this would be the best outcome for him.
The Humane Society maintains its policy of not releasing animals who have bitten or who are deemed to be aggressive. However, every animal is considered on an individual basis, and euthanasia is undertaken only after serious consideration.
“We are really happy that the staff, volunteers, board members and caring rabbit groups could all work together to bring Copper’s story to a happy end,” said Executive Director Kathleen Olson. “We are also grateful that Rabbit Haven is providing a place for him.”
