Woman shot dead while driving down street
Police are searching for whoever shot and killed a woman and wounded a man while two were in a car late Sunday.
Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said the victims were stopped at a red light near the intersection of East 56th Street and East Portland Avenue about 10 p.m., and the shooter's minivan was stopped next to them.
When the light turned green, the two cars began driving and someone inside the minivan opened fire on the other car, Fulghum said.
The woman who was driving the car was killed, and a man sitting in the passenger seat was shot in the arm.
He was taken to Tacoma General Hospital and was expected to recover.
Fulghum said the man told investigators that they did not known the shooter and that the incident was unprovoked.
"There was no confrontation, nothing beforehand," Fulghum said.
The minivan was found a few miles away, but the shooter remains at large.
No description of the attacker was available.
