Crews were dispatched to the blaze, in the 5900 block of 48th Avenue East, at about 7:45 a.m., said Randy Stephens, assistant fire chief with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

When firefighters arrived, they found the man dead inside the home as they battled the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials said it did not appear to be suspicious.

Crews expected to remain at the scene, located in unincorporated Pierce County between Tacoma and Puyallup, for several hours.
