Sunshine moves out making way for rain

Sunshine moves out making way for rain

We've had six sunny, dry weekends in a row, and we're in the middle of weekend number 7. However, Mother Nature is going to throw a wrench in our streak on Sunday, as some of us will contend with spring showers.

The annual 'Beat the Bridge' run in Seattle is early Sunday, and we may see a few initial showers to keep the runners cool in the morning.  By later in the afternoon, the showers will become more frequent as a warm front crawls over the top of the region.  Mainly cloudy skies and the scattered light rain will cool us back into the low to middle 60s on Sunday afternoon.

The cold frontal portion of this disturbance drives in early Monday, and at that point, we're in for much wetter weather.  We'll kick off the work week with steady rain for the early commute, and highs will cool down into the upper 50s to about 60 degrees.  Breezy south winds over the waterfront will make it feel even cooler--look for gusts in the neighborhood of 30 mph on Monday.

Happy Mother's Day!

We are in for some wonderful weather for getting outside.

Plan on sunny skies today with highs in the mid-70s to low-80s in many spots.  The warmest areas will be in the south Sound.

The strong ridge of high pressure will stay locked in for Monday with highs rising a few degrees.

Even Tuesday is looking mostly sunny with a few high clouds toward the end of the day.  It isn't until late Wednesday that the ridge breaks down enough to allow a stronger onshore flow to bring us more clouds and cooler temps.  By Thursday morning we could even have some areas of mist.

Sunshine sticking around most of the week

Sunday will see mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-60s in some of the warmest spots.

High pressure will stick around Monday with highs jumping to the low 70s.

Tuesday starts out mostly sunny, but the clouds will increase during the afternoon with showers returning by Wednesday.

However, the forecast models say the showers will not stick around long.  By Thursday and Friday we are back to dry weather and more sunshine.

Expect sun, clouds, showers for week ahead

Expect sun, clouds, showers for week ahead

Once again we are starting out the day under mostly cloudy skies.  We even have a few misty areas out there this morning.

The afternoon will bring increasing sunbreaks.  Highs today will hit the low to mid 60s.

We should stay dry overnight and for the first half of Monday.  You will notice the clouds moving in as the day goes on.  A few showers will also pop up by the afternoon.  Highs on Monday will drop back to the upper 50s.

Much of the week ahead will be mostly cloudy with showers at times.  That does mean we will get a few sunbreaks.  Highs will stay in the mid to upper 50s.

Right now the forecast models are pointing toward a dry and partly sunny Saturday.

Video: downtown flooding

Tacoma KOMO pal Cassie Moore sent us this video taken by her work partner Wednesday evening at S. 15th and Pacific downtown.

"Water is blowing through a manhole, I guess it rocketed the cover right off. Looks like a mini St Helens," she wrote.

Manhole covers weren't the only things displaced by this week's heavy rains. The Link light rail was derailed Wednesday evening after rain washed gravel from an uphill construction site over the tracks.

Sunshine now, showers coming later this week

Sunshine will win the battle in the sky once again today, and much of Western Washington will likely have its warmest day of 2012 this afternoon.

There's a "battle" going on as a weak upper-level disturbance is riding over the northern fringe of a huge bubble of high pressure.  We live right by that northern fringe, so clouds -- and even a few light showers -- are prevalent this morning.  This disturbance will be gone by mid-morning, taking most of the clouds with it.

Plan on partly to mostly sunny skies this afternoon with highs in the low 70s in the central sound, mid/upper 70s in the south Sound and SW Washington, and upper 60s north of Everett.  If Seattle makes it above 70 degrees today, it will be the warmest day of the calendar year.

Upper-level high pressure will slide a bit to the east on Monday, but not far enough to take away our warm weather.  After a cool start, temperatures will climb into the 70s for the second straight day, the first time that has happened since mid-September.
